The Horrors of Tiger Poaching

Poaching is one of the most immediate threats to wild tigers.in relentless demand, their parts are used for traditional medicine, folk remedies, and increasingly as a status symbol among some Asian cultures. Tigers are also illegally killed or poached because their pelts are valuable on the black market. Poaching is directed by increasingly sophisticated and well-armed criminal gangs and is estimated to be worth around 11 billion per year.
The demand for tiger skins and tiger bone wine is booming as wealthy businessmen buy these goods to prove their wealth. These products are also used as bribes for promotions within corporations. Poachers also use poisoned carcasses of a tiger’s prey to kill them. In the hot season, they dig shallow pools and fill them with poisoned water.
In order to catch a tiger, steel traps are laid in known tiger trails. Once trapped the animal is left to struggle all night until exhaustion sets in from attempts to escape. After this simple blow to the head will kill the tired animal.
To put an end to the illegal poaching of wild tigers, work needs to be done towards reducing demand for tiger skins, bones, parts and derivatives. Demand reduction is about the wider public awareness, consumer behavior change, reform in policies, and strengthened law enforcement.
While there have been great strides in diverse demand reduction campaigns for elephant ivory and rhino horn, an equivalent emphasis ,
and level of investment in campaigns to reduce demand for tiger parts and products are urgently needed. There are only 3,200 tigers left in the wild. Donating money towards campaigns and efforts can help, sharing posts, pictures and videos about the issue can help as well.

  1. The illustrations all are very good. Each of them have their own narrative. The "Tiger Lives Matter" is a good heading to be used. Maybe some of the illustrations in each one can be incorporated to make one narrative. The image of the tiger's face with the money dripping blood in the background could be interesting.

  2. I think the outline was very well written. I like The Tiger Lives Matter too but I think you should incorporate the tiger blood in with the face of the tiger too. It would make a more important statement.

  3. Some of these thumbnails are extreme & deep but they also get straight to the point that tiger poaching is a terrible thing. The illustrations provided were great & the creative hashtag provided is something that can be easily followed on social media.

  4. A very important and timely topic! The fifth thumbnail could work very well if the blood is distinguished to be a tigers. The fact that it is graphics pulls on emotions and adds to the call of action.

  5. This is a great topic especially at this time. I believe your second thumbnail would work the best

  6. the graphics are good - and some of the headers, too. Perhaps having "Tiger Lives Matter" may not be the best one, since the impact of "Black Lives Matter" is so socially and culturally important. But something close to that would work... like “Pro Tiger. Anti Poacher” - what do you think? and make sure the subhead mentions something about what needs to be done to save tigers, as opposed what should NOT be done. Does that make sense?

  7. Anthony - In my opinion, I think that the first image is the best because it is simple. I also agree with The professor on the slogan idea.
